Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007

Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS) from Microsoft is a unified communications solution that replaces Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 (LCS). It enables employees to communicate easily with each other in different locations or time zones using a range of different communication options, including instant messaging (IM), voice, and video. Its ability to integrate with the Microsoft Office suite and complementary products such as SharePoint and Exchange can provide your employees with many different ways in which to communicate with each other in a simple and straightforward format, enabling increased productivity.

Leveraging our expertise in other Microsoft collaboration products such as Exchange, SharePoint and Office, UST can assist you with the definition and delivery of an integrated solution that meets your business needs and helps you maximise the benefits from your collaboration solution.

Office Communications Server 2007 Key Features

  • Instant Messaging and Presence - Often seen as “Corporate” MSN Messenger. Users are installed a small client, similar in feel to Messenger, which provides both the ability to send/receive Instant Messages, but also give you an indication of the current ‘presence’ status of users (also integrates into Outlook and SharePoint). All conversations can be fully logged and audited and this can be further enhanced with 3rd party products from UST such as Symantec IM Manager. The client is available as a Windows based client, for Windows Mobile and as a web-client.
  • Web and Audio Conferencing - OCS includes an internal Live Meeting Server, which means you can run and host internal (and invite external people) into a Live Meeting presentation. Similar to externally hosted Live Meeting products, this allows you to share applications, upload PowerPoint presentations and then present at your pace, rather than allowing someone to read through at their own speed.
  • Telephony - OCS integrates closely with products such as Cisco Call Manager, and can provide the ability to call via the OCS Client to a telephone, both internal and external. You can also configure OCS to allow options such as ringing your actual handset in the office, and then if at home, also “ring” your OCS client on your laptop. Presence can also be integrated to show the status of users based on their telephone e.g.; when you search the directory for a person, based on their OCS status, this can be displayed on the telephone. OCS also integrates with Nortel systems with up-coming support for vendors such as Mitel and Avaya. OCS with telephony can also be utilised without an IP PBX by using a basic Telephony Gateway.

UST can demonstrate key features of OCS such as IM/Presence and Web/Audio Conferencing at our head office in Kiarong, Bandar Seri Begawan and provides services that range from basic pilots to fully integrated, large-scale Unified Communications solutions.
